Paul and I have finally begun the process of re-developing the KR-TCNTE script. The past three days we have been doing a walk through of the script. A walk through? Basically we went through the user and admin sections of the script and took notes everything we wanted change/add and scrap. So now I have eight pages, front and back, of changes we are going to make to the script. From here I am going to organize these changes and create a development plan and map the changes.
Some the items we discussed are:
- making the script more customizable
- creating more visual appeal
- Handling the internals in an more effecient manner. How?
- using tools that were not available when the script was originally written
- using the improved power of php5
- using programming techniques that were not around when the script was originally written
- provide the tools that an exchange owner really needs to run an exchange
I know the above is rather vague, it is intentional. It is too early for us to be talking about individual features. It would be irresponsible to talk about every feature in the plan, becasue they may or may not make it into the final product.
While on the subject we would love to hear feature suggestions. Feel free to leave a comment. You never know your suggestion might make it into the final release..
Here are some answers to some questions you might have..
Q. What about the old script, will you still support it?
A. Yes, we will make best effort to help you with any problems you may have. However, it will be on case by case basis and all support will be handled through the forum.
Q. Will I be able to upgrade my script, how much will it cost?
A. We will provide an upgrade path. The cost is not decided yet.
Q. Will all of custom features I have installed on my old script work on the new script?
A. We do not know, before you get mad and call me stupid let me explain why. There are sooooo many mods that were written for the old script that we no way of knowing about every mod or how it worked. We will work with every owner of the old script that wants to upgrade to find a solution.
Q.KR-TCNTE?! What the?!
A. I guess you are asking about the name.. Basically wanted to keep the identity of the script that people recognized but wanted to make it our own. So that is the unity we were looking for.
